30 Days of Gratitude: Day 13-Technology

When I contemplate all the things I’m thankful for, I usually forget to consider technology. When I was prompted to write about a piece of technology that I’m thankful for, I was almost confused at first. The prompt really got me thinking about the technology I use most (social media) and how often I take it for granted. I struggle to even remember what things were like before Facebook and Instagram. Even though a lot of people still find these things to be generational nuisances, they have done a great deal of good over the years.

More unique crimes are brought justice now that more and more people are unknowingly broadcasting their bad decisions for the public to see. Families spread across the country or even the world can see what their loved ones are up to. I think one could even argue that social media has helped thousands if not millions more people bring awareness to important causes. People are using Facebook and Instagram to boost their businesses, raise money for very honorable charities, quickly broadcast local crises, and even help find loved ones that have been lost or abducted.

Sure, sometimes these sites are painful to look at for too long, as they can be a constant reminder of the state of the world we live in. Still, I’m grateful for the progression that they’ve brought to our world. Maybe these bits of technology have brought more people together and have been more helpful than harmful.
